The Concept: Blue domes and view

Sabia Cave House is a traditional canava renovation with 2 double bedrooms and a private outdoor jacuzzi on a balcony looking directly at the volcano. Set on the lower footpaths of Oia, it sits right in the heart of the village, yet feels tucked away. Just outside your private gate, the blue dome and bell tower roof of St Spyridon’s church complete the classic Santorini picture, with caldera views unfolding in front of you.

Outdoors

Entering from the cliffside path of Oia, you step onto a large private terrace where panoramic volcano views greet you, with the blue dome church just behind. The terrace is set up for easy outdoor living, with a sunshade, table and chairs for alfresco meals, and loungers ready for long, lazy moments in the sun. The stone-built, heated outdoor jacuzzi is the highlight, perfectly placed for total relaxation in true Santorini style as you look out over the caldera.

Indoors

The villa keeps the essence of a traditional cave house: clean white lines, curved vaulted arches and in-built stone features. Inside, the clever use of space and organic shapes carved into the rock are the stand-out elements. Both bedrooms feature queen size beds and stone-built ensuite shower rooms with luxury toiletries, while compact living area and fully equipped kitchen provide everything else you need for an easy stay.

Good to know

Canava, in Greek, means cellar. On Santorini, the soft volcanic rock was easy to carve into, and people created these vaulted caves to store wine. Each canava renovation is unique in shape and form, organically molded into the cliffside. Sabia Cave House is one of these original structures, updated with modern comforts while preserving the distinctive cave-house character that makes staying here feel connected to the island’s history.
