The Concept: Sea captain’s house

Luxury Santorini villa Armelle sits on the caldera cliffside, around 350 metres above sea level, just moments from the centre of Fira. Once a sea captain’s house dating back over 200 years, the property has been thoughtfully renovated into luxury suites and villas, keeping a sense of history while offering a comfortable base for up to six guests. With two private terraces—each with a jacuzzi—and open sea, caldera, and volcano views, Armelle is designed for guests who want privacy without being far from town.

Outdoors

Arriving via the lower terrace, the view opens toward the caldera with Fira’s lights glowing in the distance—an especially atmospheric backdrop from the outdoor jacuzzi. The villa offers two terraces across two levels, both facing the sea, caldera, and volcano, so the outlook stays consistent whether you’re upstairs or down. Sun loungers and a shaded outdoor dining area make it easy to linger over breakfast and spend most of the day outside, moving between sun and shade as the light shifts.

Indoors

Inside, Armelle is bright and minimal, with stylish fixtures and furnishings chosen for comfort as much as design. Original elements—smooth arches and picture-frame windows—keep the character of the former captain’s house present throughout. On the ground level are two master bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, plus a large open-plan living space with built-in sofas, an indoor dining area, and a fully equipped kitchen, all opening to the ground-level jacuzzi terrace. Upstairs, a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom connects via a mezzanine bridge to the upper jacuzzi terrace, adding an extra layer of privacy within the layout.

Good to know

Armelle is set on Fira’s cliffside, and the closest access point for cars is the landmark Atlantis Hotel—around a three-minute walk from the villa. From here, the famous cliff path runs through Fira and on toward the neighbouring villages, lined with shops, museums, cafés, and restaurants, making it easy to enjoy a driving-free Santorini stay once you’ve arrived.
