The Concept: Luxury Sea Captain’s Mansion

Oia is an original sea captain’s house, renovated into a luxury Santorini villa. Captain’s houses were built in prime locations in the village of Oia to overlook the bay of Ammoudi—wealthy captains could watch their ships arrive below and keep an eye out for pirates. Situated high on the cliffside, facing down to Oia castle and the bay below, villa Oia is a luxury island property that offers fine-living amenities to 8 guests, with a sense of history that still feels present in the setting.

Outdoor

The entrance level front ‘yard’ terrace features a dining area and remains the original outdoor space of this historic mansion. A small private ‘Aegean Balcony’ terrace on the first level offers another spot to sit and admire the scenery. From the kitchen, stairs lead up to the roof where the large upper-level terrace opens out, centred around a bespoke stone-built outdoor heated jacuzzi, an alfresco lounge area, and a wooden deck with sofas, sun loungers, and an umbrella beside the jacuzzi. The designer’s use of local wood and stone—paired with the sunset-and-volcano outlook—makes the rooftop terrace feel naturally special.

Indoors

Indoors, the villa is renovated to the highest standard, blending vaulted ceilings and hand-finished oak floors with antique pieces and vintage chandeliers for a quietly regal feel. On the entrance level, you’ll find the spacious living rooms, two king-size bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen with all mod cons, plus a stylish semi-outdoor dining table and comfy chairs that suits long, unhurried meals. Upstairs, two queen-size bedrooms share a bathroom, and a loft kitchenette adds flexibility for families or friends.

From Villa Oia’s cliffside setting, it’s easy to explore some of Santorini’s most iconic spots. Ammoudi Bay is a short walk down the village steps, ideal for a relaxed fish lunch by the water or an early evening drink at sea level—and when you’re done, you can skip the climb back up by taking a cab. For beach time, Baxedes’ black volcanic sand on the east coast offers a quieter alternative to the caldera side, with palm-leaf sunshades and views out to Anafi.
