Almyros Beach, which is just a few steps away from Myrto, is a beautiful sandy stretch at the mouth of the namesake river that flows all year round, forming a unique wetland with eucalyptus, palm trees, and rare aquatic birds. Here you will find beach bars with umbrellas and sunbeds, water sports facilities, and even a lifeguard. After the beach, drive 5 minutes to the town of Agios Nikolaos, which will steal your heart with its breathtaking lagoon, Lake Voulismeni, and the cafes and restaurants surrounding it. The lake is the perfect place to promenade before you choose a local tavern to enjoy dinner with the best view. Don’t forget to order “kleftiko”, a Cretan specialty with either lamb or goat cooked for hours in the oven. It will literally melt in your mouth.
