Contemporary Greek Designs & Designers

Ancient Greek architecture and sculpture is part of our world heritage. Today Greek designers are still inspired by their culture and still have the same genius as their ancestors. Last week we listed some of our villas with stylish interiors. This week we have chosen a few of our favourite designers and some of their products that inspire us and our collection of luxury villas on the islands.

Spyros Drakos

Drakos learned to work in wood from a young boy in his father’s carpentry, and then he went on to study design at university. He now has his own line of wonderful pieces of simple yet elegant wood objects; lighting, chairs and tables.

This lamp is, both, elegant and fun.  The colours perfectly represent the blue sky and white washed houses of the islands, also complementing the beautiful wood of the base.  We want it!

Constantinos Hoursoglou

Staphylos is a fruit bowl that any table would be proud to have on it.  The wooden balls are all linked together, in fact they are carved from one piece of wood, and the ingenious design means your fruit is cradled. This is good design: function and beauty, all in one.

Hoursoglou has an award-winning industrial and product design studio in Athens called CHD and he has worked on projects all around the globe. His other product design company called ShiBui is based in Switzerland, and he makes beautiful and useful products that are perfect for making your home stylish.

Two Is Company

Two is Company is created by an inspirational design duo of two young Greek women, based in Athens. They are also interior designers and this is reflected in their furniture pieces.  They take Ancient Greek lines and symbols and create new clean elegant lines in products that looks sleek and yet are totally functional.

Nestia chair is totally hand made, and upholstered in antique velvet, and has wonderful copper legs.  It is so stylish and sumptuous, it makes you want to sit in it and dream. It would look amazing by the window in a luxury villa on Santorini looking out on the Aegean Sea.

Wishing you could see the great Greek designs in person? Book your villa in Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, or Paros and get ready to vacation in style.
